Collapsed Pool Wall in Mount Airy, MD Caused by Fallen Tree

Our inspector visited the property in question in order to inspect the pool for damage that was caused by a tree falling on the pool. The insured were aware that the inspection was taking place.
Observation and Analysis of Mount Airy, MD Pool
During the inspection, we made the following observations:
- There was significant damage to the pool structure as well as several components associated with the pool.
- A portion of wall at the shallow end of the pool was crushed; surrounding concrete was damaged as well.
- The fiberglass walk-in steps, diving board and junction box for the pool light were all damaged.

Our inspector confirmed that the damage was in line with the falling tree, and that the insured did not have responsibility for the damage that was incurred.
Although only one wall of the pool was damaged, because of the age of the pool, our inspector was unable to find a comparable wall replacement anywhere in the country. Because of this, it was not possible to repair just the damaged portion of the wall; instead, the entire pool would need to be replaced.
In addition, the diving board, steps, and junction box for the pool light were damaged from the tree and would need to be replaced.
Because of the unusual circumstances of the pool, and not being able to repair the damage, the cost for replacing the pool is significant. The cost of materials for replacing the pool in its entirety would run about $36,867. Labor for this endeavor would run about $15,000. The total for replacing this pool would be $51,867.
