Bellevue, OH Above-Ground Pool Split and Collapse
After an above-ground pool in Bellevue, OH splits open and collapses, Landscaping Inspection Services is called out to determined what caused the damage to the pool, and to give an estimate on repairs.
Initial Consultation on Bellevue, OH Pool
Our inspector visited the property in question and spoke with the insured who explained that she was out of town, and when she returned, the pool as in a state of disrepair, having split open on one side, causing the pool to collapse. She also informed the inspector that while the pool had been purchased in the mid-1990’s, the liner had been replaced within the last two years.
Observations and Inspection
During the inspection of the above-ground pool, our inspector noted the following observations:
- The pool wall burst and ripped the liner.
- There was dirt on the pool wall.
- The fence, deck and walk-around were okay.
- The filter and pump were not available to check.
Analysis of Pool Damage
Our inspector noted that the pool was full of ice from the harsh Ohio winter. When the pool ice thawed, it caused a change of pressure on the inside of the wall. He also noted that this type of pool wall has a life span of 20 to 25 years.
Cause of Loss and Estimated for Repair
Our inspector determined that the wall split because of deterioration (oxidation due to dirt) and change of pressure when the ice thawed. The ice may have ripped the liner, causing a leak to begin, which, as it got worse and worse, resulted in the pool wall splitting open and collapsing. In addition, this pool was simply getting old, and was likely reaching the end of its practical life.
An estimate to repair the pool was assessed at $5,884.14. This included the cost of replacement parts, as well as labor. However, it may be more prudent to replace the pool altogether with a newer model.
