Landscaping Inspection Services was called out to a Mount Airy, ND home to determine the cause of damage to the landscaping cover, pool structure, and pool liner. Our inspector visited the property in question and spoke with the insured, who stated that ice and snow over the winter had caused the damage.

Inspection Observations

Our inspector performed a thorough inspection of the pool and surrounding areas, and made the following observations:

• The winter cover was damaged, torn, and in the pool.
• There was very little water present in the pool at the time of the inspection.
• There was evidence of previous leaks and patches in the vinyl liner.
• The water was not clear and was greenish in color.
• The pool support beams were structurally damaged.
• The pool walls were buckling.
• The liner was approximately 8 years old (or more).

Analysis of Inspection Observations

Our inspector determined that the liner and cover were damaged beyond repair. In addition, the pool beams and walls were structurally damaged and not repairable. However, our inspector also noted that it is normal to see leaks in a vinyl liner of this age. Our inspector pointed out that if a liner leaks, a cover would not support the weight of the ice, snow or heavy rains. This would also affect the structure of the pool itself.
