Landscaping Inspection Services was called out to a Lawrenceville, GA home to inspect an above-ground landscaping that had partially collapsed. As with all our inspections, our inspector interviewed the homeowner prior to the inspection, in order to attain background information on the pool, such as the age and condition of the pool prior to the damage, and whether or not the pool was being properly kept up.
Our inspector spoke with the insured who explained that the cover had been on the pool and had not been weighted down by anything prior to its collapse. The insured also explained that the pool was about 6 years old, was in good shape prior to the incident, and that he came home to find it in its collapsed condition.
Landscaping Inspection: Observations
Our inspector performed a thorough inspection of the pool, cover, and surrounding areas and made the following observations:
- The pool appeared to be about 6 years old.
- The wall of the above ground pool had blown out, and there was no water in the pool.
- There was no rust present where the wall split.
- The bolts at the seam where the wall spit were actually broken and the wall was torn.
Analysis of Lawrenceville, GA Pool Inspection
After inspecting the pool, our inspector will analyze his findings, and comment on the state of the pool and what may have caused the damage.
Our inspector commented that usually when a pool splits, it is at the skimmer where water has been leaking and rust has eaten through the metal. However, in this case, there was no rust and the bolts were broken. Our inspector ascertained that the only cause that could attribute to such a split was lightning. Our inspector also noted that due to the extent of damage, the pool was a total loss at that point and would need to be entirely replaced.

In our inspector’s professional opinion, the pool had been struck by lightning, which caused the bolts to break, and the pool wall to split open. He also determined that the pool could not be salvaged, and the entire unit would need to be replaced.
